Effective Ball Handling

05 Jun 2016
The success of any basketball team, greatly depends on the point guard's ability to run the offense while facing intense, defensive pressure. The best way for a player to gain confidence in ball handling is through hours of practice. The following workout is guaranteed to bring your ball handling and dribbling to a new level. Basketball scoring tip 3: when you have a 1 on 1 opportunity always look how the defender places his feet. That's why the drills train not only your ball control but your body control as well.

Try to use your fingertips to dribble the tennis balls, you have more control with the smaller tennis ball. Supposing you have the ball on your right hand, position your left foot in front of the opponent's right foot. Drill Type 4 - Two Ball Drills- Dribbling a ball in each hand will help you develop the ambidexterity needed to perform crossovers & drive to the hoop from either hand. Stronger hands help enhance your shooting range, ball handling, passing, catching and rebounding.

For more ideas on individual skill development and offseason drill work, check out the Brand new DVD by Derrick Rose and John Calipari on Point Guard Skills & Drills Series Derrick Rose is the starting point guard for the Chicago Bulls and John Calipari is the Head Coach of the University of Kentucky. Making sure to be in stance, pound the ball as hard as you can into the ground at around waist hight with only your left hand. Other basketball tip 9: When getting a screen first fake like you are going to the other direction. This program should take you no longer than 30- 45 minutes thus giving you time to work on all other aspects of your game as well.

Carrying: Catching the ball with one hand and then continuing to dribble (without stopping the dribbling motion). I know for a fact basketball ball handling that the best confidence booster is to get good at what you do. Once you're good at handling the basketball your confidence will explode, so you want to practice different dribbling drills in order to get yourself to the level where you can control the ball very well. Ideally, the ball stays in the same place as the hand position moves from in front of the body to behind the body. Which is another reason why you need to be able to dribble without turning the ball over.

You do not need to be bound by other people's drills; challenge yourself to come up with your own drills. Multiple Through Legs - Same as above except put ball through legs 3 times (left, right, left) on quick, successive dribbles shoe top height. Warning: These are three excellent intermediate ball handling drills that you can start using right away, don't neglect to use these drills during practice. The two I did in this workout was inside out crossover and Tim Hardaway killer crossover.Perform 25 reps for each combination. Get comfortable handling and dribbling the ball in a variety of situations and settings.

Quickly switch your hands,(now left hand in front and right hand in the back), without letting the ball touch the ground.
